 2150 Area Velocity Module

Continuous wave Doppler flow meter is ideal for portable flow surveys and permanent installations.

The 2150 Flow Module uses continuous wave Doppler technology to measure mean velocity. The sensor transmits a continuous ultrasonic wave, then measures the frequency shift of returned echoes reflected by air bubbles or particles in the flow.

The 2150’s “smart” area velocity probe is built on digital electronics, so the analog level is digitized in the sensor itself to overcome electromagnetic interference. The probe is also factory-calibrated for 10-foot (3 meter) span at different temperatures. This built-in calibration eliminates drift in the level signal, providing long-term level stability that reduces recalibration frequency and completely eliminates span recalibration.

In field use, the 2150 is typically powered either by two alkaline, or Isco Rechargeable Lead-acid batteries, within a 2191 Battery Module. Highly efficient power management extends battery life up to 15 months at 15-minute data storage intervals. Other power options (including solar) are available.

Standard Features

  • Rugged, submersible enclosure meets NEMA 4X, 6P (IP68) environmental specs.
  • Chemically resistant epoxy-encapsulated sensor withstands abuse, resists oil and grease fouling, and eliminates the need for frequent cleaning.
  • Replaceable high-capacity internal desiccant cartridge and hydrophobic filter protect sensor reference from water entry and internal moisture.
  • Pressure transducer vent system automatically compensates for atmospheric pressure changes to maintain accuracy.
  • The quick-connect sensor can be easily removed and interchanged in the field without requiring recalibration.
  • Up to four 2100 Series flow modules can be networked by stacking and/or extension cables.
  • Secure data storage. All data are continuously stored in flash memory to protect against loss in case of power failure
  • Easy to upgrade. New operating software can be downloaded into non-volatile flash memory, without affecting stored program and data.
  • Records and stores input voltage and temperature data.
  • Variable rate data storage lets you change the data storage interval when programmed conditions occur. This feature assures maximum information about an exceptional event – such as an overflow – while conserving power and data capacity during normal conditions.
  • 38,400 bps communication provides speedy setup and data retrieval.

Applications

  • Portable and permanent-site AV flow monitoring for inflow and infiltration, capacity assessment, sewer overflow, and sewer studies.
  • Measures shallow flow is small pipes. Low-profile velocity sensor minimizes flow stream obstruction, and senses velocity in flows down to 1 inch (25 mm) in depth.

2151 Intrinsically Safe Area Velocity Flow Meter

CSA approved for Class 1, Division 1 environments

The 2151 Flow Meter is the intrinsically safe version (CSA approved for Class 1, Div 1 environments) of the 2100 series Area Velocity Flow Meter. To ensure proper application, the 2151 uses a distinctive color, and has connectors that are compatible only with other intrinsically safe 2100 Series components. Highly efficient power management provides battery life up to 8 months.

The area velocity method gives you greater accuracy where weirs and flumes are not practical, and where submerged, full pipe, surcharged, and reverse flow conditions may occur. You don't have to estimate the slope and roughness of the channel, and silt correction allows you to compensate for debris that accumulates on the bottom of the channel.

Isco Flowlink Software is required to set up the 2151, and to retrieve and analyze stored data. All data is stored in "flash" memory, protecting your data against glitches that can cause other storage technologies to lose your valuable data forever.

Standard Features

  • Rugged, submersible enclosure is permanently sealed to meet NEMA 4X, 6P and IP68 requirements
  • Easy to upgrade. New operating software can be downloaded into non-volatile "flash" memory via PC connection, without affecting stored program and data.
  • Measure shallow flows in small pipes. The low profile Area Velocity sensor minimizes flow stream obstruction and senses velocity in flows down to 1 inch (25 mm) in depth.
  • Chemically resistant. The epoxy-encapsulated sensor withstands tough applications.
  • Rollover memory with variable rate data storage, lets you change the data storage interval when programmed conditions occur.
  • Pressure transducer venting system automatically compensates for changes in atmospheric pressure to maintain accuracy
  • Quick connect area velocity sensor can be easily removed and interchanged in the field with no recalibration.
  • High-capacity internal desiccant cartridge keeps the vent free of moisture during normal operation
  • Replaceable hydrophobic filter protects against intrusion of water during submersion.
  • Sealed AV sensor resists fouling by oil and grease, eliminating frequent cleanings needed with electromagnetic probes.
  • 38.4k baud communication provides speedy setup and data retrieval.

Applications

  • Open channel flow measurement in Hazardous Locations (up to Class 1, Div 1, Groups C & D)
  • Level measurement in explosive or potentially explosive areas, such as manholes, digesters, and storage tanks

Options and Accessories

  • Barrier cable (25 foot) for RS-232 connection to computer with 9-pin sub-D serial port.
  • Sensor carrier for attaching Low Profile Area Velocity Sensor to Isco Standard Mounting Rings.

2151P Intrinsically Safe, Permanent Flow System

Flexible installation and data communication for Class 1, Division 1 environments

The 2151P Flow System is similar to the 2151 intrinsically safe Area Velocity Flow Meter, but is designed to operate from AC power for long-term or permanent applications rather than from battery power for shorter-term, portable applications. Like all 2100 Series modules, the 2151P is set up via connection to a computer running Flowlink Software.

The intrinsically safe design of the 2151P module and flow sensor allows them to be installed in Class I, Division 1, Groups C and D hazardous locations. The concept of intrinsic safety is to limit the energy available to a given circuit or device to a level where electrical discharge (sparking) cannot ignite the hazardous (flammable or explosive) atmosphere. With no spark ignition possible, the equipment can operate safely in areas with hazardous atmospheres.

A CSA-approved 12V DC (±5%) intrinsically safe power supply is mandatory. Power is fed to the 2151P through an attached cable from the safe area. Remote flow monitoring is possible through the use of Isco’s 2103 Modem Module or 2108 Analog Output Module.

The standard 2100 Series flow modules are designed so that you can expand or reconfigure a monitoring system by stacking modules. Because of safety requirements, the 2151P is not compatible with the direct stacking of additional 2100 series modules which are not intrinsically safe.

Other 2100 series modules, including the 2101 Field Wizard and 2103 Modem, can be connected via the Network Barrier Cable or Network Isolator.

Standard Features

2150EX Flow Meter for Zone 0 locations

Area Velocity meter - Baseefa approved as ATEX Group II, Category 1G

The 2150EX is an intrinsically safe Area Velocity Flow Meter that is specifically designed and Baseefa-approved for use in Zone 0 and Zone 1 potentially explosive atmospheres under ATEX Directive 94/9/EC.

The AV 2150EX smart Area Velocity probe is built on digital electronics, so the analog level is digitized in the sensor itself. The probe is also factory-calibrated for 3 meter span at different temperatures. This superior built-in calibration eliminates temperature drift in the level signal, providing long-term level stability that reduces recalibration frequency and completely eliminates span recalibration.

The 2150EX is powered by the by the 2194EX network interface module for permanent, AC-powered installations, or by the 2196EX battery module for portable use. Highly efficient power management provides battery life of 6.5 weeks at a two-minute data storage interval.

Standard Features

  • Rugged, submersible enclosure is permanently sealed to meet IP68 (NEMA 4X, 6P) requirements
  • Easy to upgrade. New operating software can be downloaded into non-volatile "flash" memory via PC connection, without affecting stored program and data, and without removing the 2150EX from the hazardous area.

  • Open channel flow measurement in Hazardous Locations (ATEX Category 1G)
  • Portable and permanent-site AV flow monitoring for inflow and infiltration, sewer overflow, and other sewer studies.
  • Measuring shallow flows in small pipes. The low profile Area Velocity sensor minimizes flow stream obstruction and senses velocity in flows down to 25 mm in depth.
  • Level measurement in explosive or potentially explosive areas, such as manholes, digesters, and storage tanks.

Options and Accessories

  • Network communication cables and isolator cable for RS-232 connection from hazardous area to computer (in safe area) with 9-pin sub-D serial port.
  • Sensor carrier for attaching Low Profile Area Velocity Sensor to Isco Standard Mounting Rings.
  • 2194EX Network Interface Module - AC-powered interface module in the safe data isolates power data connections
  • 2196EX Battery Module - provides DC power for portable applications
